Extended Sermons
“Calls for following and obeying Jesus’ instructions even if we may not know the outcome or how it’s going to turn out” ⇒ How often do we question something the Lord asks? And we think “This doesn’t make sense.” “How is this going to work out.” “What’s the probability of this going to plan.” “Is somebody going to think I’m weird or odd for doing this.” Life often brings us to crossroads where we must choose between the familiar and the unknown. In these moments, trust and faith become our guiding lights. Just as Jesus’ disciples were called to obey and trust His instructions, even when the outcome was uncertain. We too must embrace the unknown with confidence. Even when the path seems unclear and the challenges insurmountable. Even when it feels it’s impossible. Understand Jesus does not send you on failed missions. It may feel like that sometimes. But know this Jesus never sets you up for failure.
Additional Notes & Application
Teaches how Jesus will fulfill in us what He created us to do in carrying His work and glory into the world. We can either buck and resist Jesus, “I don’t want to go”. Or we can submit and serve Jesus in what He desires and created us for.
Will you trusts that what God commands, God provides. The disciples didn’t make up excuses, they didn’t ask questions, they didn’t push back, they didn’t delay, they just went. And that’s the same kind of faith that we need as well. When we embrace such unwavering faith, we unlock the extraordinary blessings that God has planned for us. It’s about letting go of our doubts and fears, and boldly stepping out, knowing that Jesus has equipped us with everything we need to succeed. Just as the disciples followed Jesus’ commands without hesitation, we too must learn to trust in His divine provision. Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. So, step out in faith, embrace His guidance, and watch how He works wonders in your life. What a blessed thought – that God can use us in His grand, divine plan.
You may be looking at this going, “Sitting on a donkey, a colt of a donkey”. Thinking that seems like a odd thing to do. Wouldn’t you have done something a ;little bit more grandeur or majestic Jesus? Why don’t you come on a white stallion, that’s going to draw some attention. Or come in with a nice chariot all decked out, hydraulics, get some lifts on this thing, got the lights underneath, stereo blasting, etc. But coming on a young donkey that doesn’t seem to hip. But we need to remember that it was a common practice for a Jewish King to ride on a donkey when coming in peace.-(1-Kings 1:33, Judges 5:10; 10:4; 12:14; and 2 Samuel 16:2.) But if you were going to war or returning in victory, you would ride in on a horse. But by riding on a donkey, Jesus was coming with an offer of peace, peace by dyeing on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. By coming on a donkey Jesus not only shows His Kingship, but also reveals the peaceful nature of His reign as loving and gentle.
