Matthew 18:10……Ready
“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. (The child Jesus is still holding in His arms-(V.2) Immature in the faith) For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. (To report to God when a believer strays. Not one-for-one as in guardian angels, though this may be possible. But all of God’s angels who do His will for His church as a whole. In fact were probably better off with a bunch of angels watching over us, than just one single angel.) (For Expository Notes on this verse see Companion Book)
Extended Sermons
“Displays the high regard & value God has for all believers, not wanting anyone to be neglected or mistreated.” → God doesn’t value people the way we tend to value people. God doesn’t value people the way the world tends to ascribe value to people. God doesn’t value people based on what they produce, or what they’re able to achieve. He doesn’t value people based upon their power, their status. Their wealth That might be the way of the world, but that is not the way of the Lord. The bible affirms that every human life matters. It has dignity, it as value, it has worth, simply because it bears the image of God Himself.
“Even today, we can discourage others by tearing them down; “How can you fall for that or think that.” Or our skepticism; “I don’t believe His repentance is genuine, he’s bound to fall again.” Our criticism “They should have overcome this sin by now, we have”. Our squelching their zeal and enthusiasm; “You won’t be so zealous and on fire for the Lord down the road.” ⇒ Do you criticize others for their immaturity, their failures, their struggles, their wonderings. Do you simply dismiss them, it’s just one person, and beside they’re making their own choices. Let them live in what they choose. Do you criticize them for their lack progress “Why can’t they just grow up and be more like me?’ We all come to Christ as little children. We all need to grow in our Christian faith. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. As believers we should never look down on weaker believers or point the finger at somebody else, When we know nothing about their struggles and personal demons. How many have looked down at others as being weak, saying, “We don’t struggle with that sin, or we would not fall for that temptation”, when we don’t know how long or how hard they have struggled and tried not to sin. Or the power of the forces and spiritual pressures that were against them in that sin.
