Matthew 17:6-8….Ready
17:6 When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified. (Maybe they’re afraid for their own safety. Maybe they’re afraid because they don’t know what’s going to happen next. Maybe its the fear of falling into the hands of the living God.-(Hebrews 10:31). 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no-one except Jesus. Extended Sermons
“Teaches every time we fall down in worship will get a fresh word from the Lord.” ⇒ Expect divine encouragement and direction when we humble ourselves before Him. In those moments of worship the Lord meets us with renewed assurance, speaking hope and clarity into our hearts. This act of worship opens us to receive His comfort and guidance, especially in times of uncertainty or fear. Just as the disciples were uplifted by Jesus’ touch and words, we too can trust that God responds to our humble worship by breathing new life and courage into us, preparing us for the challenges and callings ahead.
”Teaches when paralyzed with worry and fear, Jesus touches and comforts us, reassuring us everything is going to be O.K.” ⇒ Whatever worries or concerns you have. Maybe it’s the anxiety of starting a new job or moving to a new city. Maybe it’s a dream or plan that didn’t work out. Jesus touches us and says, “Get up and stand”. Whatever the Lord is calling to be raised up in. Do not be afraid. Maybe the Lord is calling you to step into your own transfiguration? Maybe the Lord is going to do something new and different in your life. Maybe the Lord is calling you to do something difficult and challenging, but don’t be afraid know that He is going to be with you in it.
Additional Notes & Applications
Teaches how we can face and overcome our fears by listening to Jesus and Him alone.
Teaches no matter the challenges that lay ahead Jesus is always there with us in it, comforting and encouraging us.
Teaches how Jesus wants to speak something new into our lives.
Teaches how often times were not sensible of the blessings and mercies of God in our lives until there gone.-(V. 8) Make good use of the mercies of God for we do not know when they will be lost and withdrawn.
Just like the disciples we too would be terrified if we heard God’s voice speaking. Sometimes you hear people say “When I get to heaven I’ve got some questions I’m going to ask Almighty God.” I can promise you this, it’s not going to be like that for any one of us. Don’t think for one minute when you get to heaven your going to hold God to account. Rather God’s going to hold you and me to account, not the other way around. In fact anyone who came into the presence of God in the bible fell with their faces to ground in utter fear. When God drew near to the prophet Malachi he said; “Who can stand when He appears, for He is like a refiners fire.-(Mal. 3:2) Or how about the Apostle John. Having seen the resurrected Christ in all his glory, wrote, “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.’”-(Rev. 1:17-18)
