Matthew 10:5-6……..Working
10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out (649-“Apostle”, to send on a service or a commission.) with the following instructions: “Do not go among (Journey, tour minister) the Gentiles (Non-Jews. Tyre and Sidon to the north and the Decapolis to the east.) or enter any town of the Samaritans. (Only applied to that time and place. After the resurrection Evangelism is to spread everywhere.-{cf. Matt. 28:19}) 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel (i.e. Jews. Jesus confines the disciple’s ministry field to Israel, since Salvation is to be offered first to the Jews.)
Continued From Book
“Teaches our job is God’s means in providing a way to serve Him. Passion for ministry comes from God.” ⇒ Just as Jesus calls His disciples, He also puts a desire and passion on our hearts for a specific service. God puts a deep conviction and desire on our hearts to reach out to people with the Gospel. Did you know the desires in your heart is exactly what God wants you to do? Whether its a strong desire to preach or teach. A strong desire to serve. A strong desire to reach the lost for Christ. If you grew up in a life of drugs and alcohol. You will have a passion in reaching out to people who are struggling with alcoholism and addiction. If you grew up in a abusive relationship, you will have a passion to help those who are suffering spousal abuse. You may have a passion for the truth so God might place you in a preaching or teaching ministry. You may have a passion for outreach, so God might place you in a missionary field.
“Teaches how ministry is to be focused and specific. Christ quickens us in the diligence of our work.” ⇒ If you don’t aim at anything, your not going to hit anything. When ministry and service is not focused or not specific, it is almost certainly and variably doomed to mediocrity. God hasn’t called us to do everything for everyone. If you start up a company your not going to be able to take up every aspect of the business. That’s why you hire book keepers, accountants, lawyers. etc. Doctors who specialize in a specific area of medicine do so because the human body is so complex. That’s why some only become optometrist, chiropractors, orthopedics, sociologists, etc. So to in ministry.
“Teaches how Jesus understands our deep sentiments in seeing family, friends, and countrymen Saved.” ⇒ All of whom we could not but pity, and be desirous to help. Even Christ had a particular and tender concern for the house of Israel.-(Matt. 23:37) Whom were the beloved Patriarchs and forefathers of Isreal. (Rom. 9:3-4)
More Notes & Applications
This has cause some confusion among believers because later we are instructed by Jesus to go into all of the world with the Gospel message, making disciples of all nations. (Matt. 28: Acts 1) But there is really no conflict because here it was only meant for that place and that specific time. Later Jesus will send them on a greater mission to the whole world. (Matt. 28 )
This does not mean that God doesn’t care about certain people. Or that some people are more worthy of Salvation than others….. (To be continued)
