Matthew 5:9….Working
5:9 Blessed{V.3} are the peacemakers, (1515-One who seeks to bring harmony, unity, and reconciliation between men. Bridge-builders, fence-menders) for they will be called (counted, characterized.) sons of God. (Expresses one who reflects the character of God, always loving and forgiving. Or one who carries out the Gospel message of peace and reconciliation to a lost world.)
More Notes & Applications
Warns how we can’t create peace among others if we don’t start with peace in our own hearts. Only by knowing God’s love and forgiveness can we bring that into other relationships, situations, and circumstances.
Teaches Peacemakers are people who bring peace to others, because they have it themselves. A person who lives with unresolved conflict on their own heart cannot bring peace to others. You can’t expect to bring others to Christ if your always arguing, bickering, and gossiping.
Note: Being a peacekeeper and a peacemaker is not the same. One runs from conflict. The other runs TOWARD it to create peace. Peacemakers actively pursue peace. This requires more than a passive approach in our relationships with others. We should strive for peace in all relationships.
Note: Peace just doesn’t happen. It is something we work for, something we strive for. Notice Jesus doesn’t say blessed are those who hope for peace, wish for peace, or desire peace. He doesn’t say, Blessed are those who have a peaceful disposition. Nore is peace about avoiding conflict or to protect our own tranquility. The focus is not on the personality, but on the action of the person Jesus describes. Those who are blessed are those who “work” for peace, who are willing to get involved. Those who are willing to get into tricky situations and fight for peace. Those who see opportunity will step into it, not just sit back and wait.
