Matthew 5:7…..Working
5:7 Blessed {V. 3} are the merciful, (3628-One who is moved with compassion & action towards the plight/suffering of others. Forgiving, forbearing, goodwill.) for they will be shown mercy. (Not in the sense as “What comes around goes around”, that if we’re merciful God will be merciful to us. But rather our mercy towards others displays a heart that received God’s mercy.)
Extended Sermon Notes
Approved are those who bear the same mercy & forgiveness towards others that God has shown them. ⇔ To be merciful is to have compassion on others, for we were sinners too. To be merciful is the ability to put oneself in another’s situation and act with compassion. Showing mercy to others doesn’t earn a person entrance into the kingdom of heaven, but rather our mercy towards others displays a heart that has truly received God’s grace and mercy. Mercy sets aside society’s belief that it is honorable to demand revenge.
“Teaches how as recipients of God’s mercy were to be dispensers of God’s mercy.” ⇒ When were unmerciful to others it is both hypocritical and judgmental. It’s hypocritical in the sense that were receiving something we don’t want to give. We don’t practice what we preach, that’s hypocrisy. It’s also judgmental because if we don’t give people mercy, even though we have received mercy. We’re basically saying that they don’t deserve what we deserved. And that’s judgmental.
