Matthew 4:23…….Ready
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
More Notes & Applications
-
Teaches how the focus of ministry should always be about sharing the Gospel and helping to free people from a life of sin, sickness, and addiction.
-
Teaches how as believers we must take the initiative, that we can’t simply sit back, but must make it our mission in bringing the Gospel to people who need it most! (Will you bring hope to people who are lost and hurting?)
-
Calls for reaching out and touching people at their point of need, that they may experience God’s grace and love. That no matter how sinful, depraved, or sick they are they can start anew with God. (cf. John 6:68)
-
Displays how Christ sought out the sinner, the sick, and the weak, that He didn’t wait for those to get right with God first. (Don’t think that you have to clean yourself up first or get your life in order before coming to Christ. Or you have to live a perfect sinless life in order for God to shower His love and blessings upon you.)
-
Displays how Jesus cares about a persons whole being, their physical well-being as well as their spiritual well-being. Elevating them to a new sense of value, wholeness, and worth.
-
Displays how Jesus heals everyone who is brought to Him no matter who they were, that no one leaves the same person or same condition by which they arrived. (In the eyes of Jesus the condition of a persons life does not determine their value, He doesn’t care if your black, white, alcoholic, drug addict, prostitute, gang-banger, etc.)
-
Teaches how preaching and ministry must always go together, that if we’re just proclaiming the Gospel but never meeting people, touching people, serving people, and getting to know them they’ll never really know that God loves, that God cares, and that God Saves. (You can give out as many meals and free handouts as you want, but it never helps them to experience God’s love and Saving grace.)
-
Calls for being involved in all aspects of ministry, even those areas that were not gifted, qualified, or comfortable with. (You may not have the gift of healing, but you can still touch people by entering into their hardships and pain by being with them, that we can make our self’s available to those that are hurting and suffering!)
-
Calls for having a compassionate conviction in teaching the word, conveying the truth about God, man, sin, death, and Salvation. (Will you preach how sinful people can be made right before a holy God, that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light?) (cf. John 14:6)
-
Teaches how ministry is more than just about church programs, activities, and events. (We’ve all heard the terms, “Children’s ministry”, “Youth Ministry”, “Sunday Brunch”, “Bingo Night”, “Cookouts”, “Revival”, etc. which are good in themselves for growing in the Lord. But the real heart and essence of ministry should always be about serving, witnessing, and reaching the “Lost” for Christ.)
Note: Jesus was not some sort of self-help guru you see today, one who is there to pump up your self-esteem and make you feel better about yourself. Nor was Jesus a psychologist who taught the secrets to a happy and better self or your best life now. Nor was Jesus a best sealing author touring Galilee in promoting His latest book, conference, or seminar. But rather Jesus was out to change and transform people from the effects of sin and death by dying on the Cross as their substitute.
Note: This is not saying that every believer is expected to become a Preacher or Evangelist. Nor is it saying that every believer will have the gift of healing. (cf. 1-Pet. 4:10-11) But as Christians the Gospel should be lived and communicated daily through our conversations, our lifestyle, our speech, our conduct, our teaching, and our actions. As well as seen through a life of love, patience, kindness, and compassion. (cf. Gal. 5:22-23, Col. 3:12-17)
